Giving to the Foundation

Fillmore County Foundation, Inc. a non-profit corporation,
Incorporated June 27, 1983, qualified 501(c)3 charitable organization

Because Fillmore County Foundation is recognized as a "public charity" donors may deduct up to 50% of their gross income from gifts made in cash, and up to 30% for gifts of appreciated property. Where the full amount of the gift cannot be utilized as a deduction the year the gift is made it may be carried forward for up to five additional years.

Can a gift be designated to serve other charities?

A donor making a gift to Fillmore County Foundation may designate a specific interest area where they desire their money to be used, as allowed by law.

How can a gift be established that will benefit the donor or members of his family as a living gift?

By establishing a "remainder trust" within the Foundation. The donor receives an income tax deduction the year the trust is established; he or she receives income from the trust during his or her and their spouses' lifetimes; any capital gains and estate taxes on appreciated property are avoided and the donor has the prerogative of naming other non-profit organizations and institutions to receive a portion of the remainder upon his or her death and the death of the donor's spouse.
